Dear (ELECTED OFFICIAL):
I am strongly opposed to the proposal by GB Salmon (formerly Georgian Bay Innovation Group) to build and operate an 11-acre inland salmon aquaculture facility in The Town of South Bruce Peninsula.
Our drinking water is at risk! We depend on Colpoy's Bay for this priceless resource. Piping over 1.8 million litres of water daily from Colpoy's Bay to the fish factory—then returning over 1.5 million litres of wastewater daily to the bay—will surely cause irreversible damage to our drinking water, as well as to the ecology and biodiversity of Colpoy’s Bay and Georgian Bay.
This venture is an “experiment “ by GB Salmon’s admission, since there are no land-based salmon factories of this size worldwide that are economically viable.
Placing an industrial facility of this magnitude on part of the UNESCO Niagara Escarpment Biosphere will have severe negative implications for our climate footprint and will spoil the pristine beauty of our wilderness and water-- ultimately diminishing our tourism industry and related economy and jobs.
This project must be stopped. We cannot afford to jeopardize our drinking water, environment and future.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank-you,
